Chrome line barrel

Post by eagles »

Does anyone offer any refurbishing of the model 8 barrel, like maybe chrome lining and or does anyone offer a replacement barrel ?

Hi eagles, I've never heard of anything other than the odd, custom one-off

Never seen a larger scale barrel production for these.

it seems odd considering the numbers that were made and how popular in many circles they still are, do you know who did the custom one-off ? Thanks

A replacement barrel is easy to come by, though likely expensive. Talk to any barrel maker to make to a coutour/caliber/twist identical to what you have, then have a smith thread, chamber and crown the replacement barrel. This is common work that should be a service available through any competent gunsmith.

To be honest, you can get pretty far with a 1" OD Green Mountain barrel cut in the right places to clear the M8/M81 internal clockwork. It doesn't have to be a perfect profile of the original barrel which is quite thin in the larger calibers, though that approach will likely make a for a heavier rifle. Being a recoil-operated design heavier barrels might affect function in the lighter calibers.

if you go the custom barrel route, I'd suggest aiming to have the new barrel's weight and profile match the original.
