Shot my Model 8 this weekend, but not as much as I'd planned to.

After about 10 shots the trigger froze. It won't budge. Bolt seems to operate normally, and I can feel it through the trigger I assume vial interaction with the hammer.

It looks like I'll be taking this one apart. I'd hoped to avoid it, but I can get the most challenging Browning design back together (Colt 1903) and so am confident of success.

Anyone know what I broke? It'll be next week before I'm able to work on it.

I did (finally) take it down. I appears that the bolt may not be turning in its spiral broach.

It's in too nice of shape to whittle on with the wrong screwdrivers and so I'll have to wait!

Chapman is the kind I use for most all smithing.
A few long bits from Brownells, and some reground Pachymar. The Pachymar are rather brittle.

You can never have enough tools and proper screwdrivers are at the top of the list. Congratulate you on having good sense not to dive in until you have some correct ones. The fixed shaft sets from Grace and Forester are a good start at a reasonable price. The Magna tip sets from Brownell`s have served me well. The addition of a thin bit set to any of the brands is a good idea.

The barrel catch spring broke right at the dimple that is wedged in the retaining recess.

After it broke it found its way into the hammer spring and wedged between it and the trigger - hence frozen trigger.

I suspect this isn't the first time this happened as the spring is shorter than what I see in pictures and when I tried to put a bit of a dimple on the end to fit in the recess I broke off another mm or so. I think it's too hard, or has somehow aged to become brittle.

I put it back in and all seems to work well - but for how long? I suspect I'll need a replacement. Are there any gunsmiths making these? I don't think it would be too hard with a piece of 0.003" spring steel strip 0.040" wide and a furnace. If I can find the material I might try it with and OA torch.

I don't have any spare Model 8/81 parts to trade (yet), but I'm up to my eyeballs in Mauser parts if you all find yourself in need of something there. I also have some Win 94 bits & pieces.

You could see my recent WTT post. Also recently added a Schmidt-Rubin 31 in nice shape. Need a couple mags. I've parts from a Savage720 available too. No Bbl or wood just odds and ends

Don't have K31 magazines, but I believe I *do* have a couple charging clips if those are of interest...
