new guy

Post by madtrapper143 »

Howdy from north western Ontario. Moose, bear and BIG whitetail country. I have a decent model 8 in .35 Remington. Love this site and hope to aquire more 8's in the future.

Madtrapper,

Welcome to the forum. I'm curious, are Model 8/81 rifles fairly common in your area? In southeast Tennessee, most guys have never seen one, much less owned/shot one.

They are not as common as they once were. I was told by the old timers that it was a neck and neck race between model 8's and savage 99's when they were buying new guns in the old days. The savages won out due to savage's campaign that said the .300 Savage "hit's with a ton" I still see a few 8's and 81's at gun shows but most have not seen the bush for years. Shame, I like hunting with mine.
