Greetings from Maine!

Hello all.

I am new to the board and wanted to take a moment to say hello.

I own a beautiful (a subjective determination I know) yet aged Model 8 in .35 Rem. that was passed down to me by my father a few years ago. It was originally owned by my great grandfather and has a 4 digit serial # which I will have to share more details of when I return home to verify it.

I used this grand rifle last year to take a nice whitetail doe using Hornady's Leverevolution ammo. I can't praise that ammo enough. Coupled with this great rifle I have an incredible firearm combination to cherish until I can pass it to my own kids in the not so distant future.

So thank you to the creators and members of this site. I have enjoyed looking around and hope to learn and share more as time goes by.

Rev. Jeff

Welcome Rev. Jeff to the Remington Model 8 and 81 boards. I know everyone on the board would really like to see any pictures you might have of your Model 8... and that deer you took with it last year! You are so fortunate to possess a family heirloom that you can pass along to your descendants. I hear Maine is a great place to find Remington Autoloading rifles.

I'll try to attach the only photo I have of my Model 8 thus far. I'll apologize ahead of time as it is not the best quality photo.

The ser. # is 327X. I would love to find out more information about it's history (birth date etc.) if anyone can tell from that information.

Maine is very .35 Rem. friendly as many here consider that round to be one of the best all around deer hunting ammo choices available. I can't say that I've seen many of the Rem. Autoloaders around but it is clear to me that these are amazing rifles. Mine is quite literally one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned.

Thanks again.

Rev. Jeff

Welcome to the site. Nice early 8 you have there. Even better it has a history.

Maine is a pretty neat place. Went there 3 years ago. Drove up from Boston, so got to see a lot, from the Interstate, anyway. went to Schoodic Lake, NW of Bangor. Had a good time.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I definitely have a family treasure with a grand history. It's a nice feeling to experience that family connection when I carry this rifle into the woods for deer season!

Not to doubt this information but I just found the date of 1907 corresponding to my serial number (four digit 327X) per this web page listing:

Thanks.

Opps, just for the record I spotted a typo in that serial list, I'll fix it and verify the rest of it. (very minor) 7754 in 1907 not 7734.
