Remington Model 25 in 25-20

Post by 35Rem »

I know I haven't been really active here in a while. Apologies to all the fine folks here.
I picked up a sweet little Model 25 pump rifle in 25-20 over the holidays.
It's been a little project. It's in great functioning shape. It came to me drilled and tapped for some unknown scope mount. Well, I started to consider putting a little Micro reflex sight on it (and still may!) but after shooting a pretty decent 50 yard group, I can't resist scoping it for at least load development.
"But Larry, you've never made a scope base."
Can't say that now. Won't say it's great, and I'll still need to finish it, but it fits and is mounted. Had a Leupold 2-7x33 scope that should be just right.

"Load development? But Larry, you don't reload."
Well, at $1.50 per shot for factory stuff I bit the bullet and got set up. It will be too much of a fun gun to not shoot it. I know my kids will adore it with zero recoil and fairly light weight. Sooooo... get set up to reload and hey, the 7 year old boy is about ready to do this kind of thing (supervised of course). He's excited. Can't wait to shoot some of the reloads.

Check out the pics in the link and tell me what you think.

Those Remington 25's are neat little rifles. Look more like a 22 RF and I think they are neater than a Winchester 92 or Marlin 94 in the same caliber. I got one in 32 WCF about 10 years ago and like it so much I just had ro get one in 25-20. Been working up cast bullet loads for it this winter. Got Marble tang sights on both.

These are very neat little rifles that are the take down style. I have one that my dad bought for me when I was about 12 years old. I killed my first doe with it. I bought a very beautiful butt stock for it on Ebay made of birds eye maple for $25.00. Seller claimed it was a cancellation from a customer. I have a wood lathe and some birds eye maple. Why have I not made the matching corncob forearm to match it. I am retired, I should have time to make it. Maybe just having too much fun or just too lazy. That birds eye maple is beautiful and I would like to see more of it on firearms.

I forgot to mention that later we had a Weaver K-2.5 scope mounted on it and it works fine for the range of the 25-20 caliber.

If anyone is interested, I do have an extra set of the brand new Weaver mounts for the Model 25 that will accept 1" scope tubes. I will just have to find them. Of course the rifle will have to be drilled and tapped to accept them.

Ah! Some of you guys may have thought I had died and now I am more active than ever.

Be safe and enjoy life.
