Dear Membership and Visitors,

I have been working with a frustrating issue for a number of years and if I were to guess, many of you have had the same frustration. In an attempt to remedy this frustration, I took on the task of developing a form that will help record vital information about our Remington Model 8 and 81 rifles.

I contacted Bob Creamer who is a member of the Remington Society of America. I told him what I was working on and asked for his input. Bob being the gentleman he is was very gracious and provided input on the project. Bob told me that he had not seen a form like I was working on and could certainly see the value of such a document.

Bob Creamer is collaborating with Roy Marcot on a book about the engraved Remington’s. Bob has asked that if any of you have an engraved Remington he would like for you to send him a copy of the form with some photographs of your rifle. If you have questions about how the data will be used you can direct your inquires to Bob Creamer via email at creamer10@comcast.net.

I sought input from several collectors about information I was putting on the form. Cam Woodall has been a good source and I would not have been able to get the results without his assistance. I received computer help from Mitch Silvers in getting the information on the form with Excel software. Cam has graciously agreed to put the form into a PDF format which will allow the user to complete the form in either hard form by printing the form or by inputting directly on the computer. Both of these gentlemen have my grateful appreciation for their assistance.

It is my hope that owners of these very unique rifles will see the value of recording the information about their rifles. I sincerely hope that all of you will take your rifle and record the information on the form. The form will be a “work in progress”. I want to improve the form based on suggestions from you and I am sure there are opportunities to make the form better. It is a great way to show documentation for insurance purposes and a great way to advertise the rifle should you ever want to sell it.

Please look for a posting in the days to come from 81Police. He will be putting the form into a PDF format that can be used directly from the computer. If any of you have suggestions or question about the form, please contact me via email at jack1653@att.net. If you would like a copy that can be reproduced send an email and I will send you a copy that can be printed off.

Remember, if you have an engraved Model 8 or 81 in grade E or F, please contact Bob Creamer and help provide information for the book that Roy Marcot and he are working on.

Thank you Jack for helping collectors with these forms, they are very useful. I encourage anyone with a high grade rifle (D grade and up) to fill out this form and send it to Bob Creamer for the future book. Thanks guys, you have really taken off with this idea. I'm enjoying using form on all of my 8s & 81s (nothing close to collector grade) including the world's ugliest 8.

This was all Jack's idea, my hat's off to him for sharing it with us all. Great job Jack, this stuff is a great help and resource for any collector.
