Navy Model 8? 1931?

Seller here says he has a Navy Model 8 in .30 Rem. Only thing I see in his pics is an anchor stamp on the bottom of the receiver which in the book is one of many stampings possible in that time frame.

I asked the seller if it has any other provenance.... :?

Remington's inspectors/fitters used a variety of approval stamps. There is nothing US Navy about this gun. It's strictly commercial.

That was my thinking too. Seller replied to my query with "do you want to buy the rifle?". No other info offered.

Right on with that!!! I've never read or heard of 8's or 81's having special military designations. Have seen sellers on GB many times in their sales pitches either through ignorance on certain firearms or trying to BS buyers with inaccurate information. Many times I scratch my head thinking that doesn't seem right and if I'm aware on the history and/or use of a model of firearm I know they're either ignorant or trying to scam/BS their gun. Many time's at gunshows I love to expose the BS'ers of their scam. Many that don't know are appreciative of being told real info. If a seller doesn't respond with an answer to a legitimate question on GB or comes back with a answer like the guy selling the 'Navy' Model 8 it's a real bell ringer that the seller is trying to scam or BS.

We'll I'll Be!!!!!!! Reference to any Model 8 or 81 designated to be a 'Navy Model', while looking through Henwoods book on another matter, I ran across on page 117 a short heading titled 'The U.S. Navy Model 81's'. Not much info other than around 1944 100 Model 81's in 300 Savage and Remington 35 were bought and delivered to the Springfield Armory. No record of what ever happened to them, although some info indicates they had 10 shot detachable magazines. The Model 8 posted by 9.3 wouldn't fly as it is a Model 8 made in 1931 before the 81 came out in 1936 and the purchase was made in '44, long after the Model 8 was discontinued. Just sayin'!!!!
