That appears to be the 81/300 Savage that sold at Goeman auction this morning. It also had the peep sight for the Boone scope mount. Sold for $625.00.
Re: 81 Saturn Boone scope
Forget to mention the Colt Gatling gun 45-70 at the same auction sold for $33,000.00.

Re: 81 Saturn Boone scope
This is a Boone scope. If you try to use one it will fall apart from recoil. The glue that holds it togeather has dried out allowing all the glass to fall out. These were made in 2.5 and 4 power. Needs a special mount for each model.
Re: 81 Saturn Boone scope
always thought these were really unusual, but cool looking scopes. Never actually seen one in person. What are they like looking through?

Re: 81 Saturn Boone scope
I have had several of these. I have seen them mostly on Savage 99 but have seen them on Winchester 1894 and Model 70. They were a prism scope. Very crude windage and elevation adjustments. Moving one changed the other. You just about wore out a barrel trying to sight in. I repaired two by re gluing the prisms with modern epoxy. They had a small field of vision. Very difficult to take apart. Very small watch type screws. They were made to be carried in a pouch and mounted on the gun when needed. This is the first one I have seen on a model 81. I can assure you that if this 81 is fired with the Boone in place the prisms will fall out with in 20 shots. The were made about 1951.

Wow, I didn't know any of that. Maybe they should have mounted that on a 25Rem instead
