what was the original price of a marbles peep sight when it was new?

In the 1918 Remington catalog, if I'm reading it correctly, it says "Marbles Flexible Peep" - $3.30. I'm not sure if this is the tang version. But it does say "Lyman Tang Peep" $3.50. So i'd say between $3.30-3.50. Additional apertures or "target discs" for the peep sights were $0.50.

These are prices for factory installed aftermarket sights. I don't know what these sights cost when an individual purchased them outside Remington.

i just purchased one on ebay for 162$ and i felt like that was a lot for a tiny little sight. That got me thinking about the VALUE of a new one. with current gold at 1300$ per oz, my sight cost .124 oz of gold. if the original cost was 3.30 in 1918 when gold was 19.00$ per oz then it originally cost .1736 oz. so I actually paid less now than it cost new. In our age of cheap machine made import stuff i guess it just makes me forget how dear some of these items wold have been in a different time.

I'd say what you paid for the sight falls within the average range of today. Usually they're around $100-200
