Fellow member "Fred" here made this for me to try.
I think it is going to work.
Got the laser bore sighter out and tweaked it right in.
I may undo everything and bed it in as suggested.
Angle is weird but the scope is just forward of the ejection port.

Target # 1 50 Yards
First three shots at the bottom before the scope was dialed in aiming at the center. Nice close group though.
.93"
The lone hole is me walking the scope up.
Three in the center 1.68"
Four up top 1.805"

Target #2 again 50 Yards.
Middle group 2.43"
Top group and actually the last fired 3.18"

Target # 3 at 50 yards trying my hardest.
1.43"
Without that flyer it would have been .68".
I figure 4 is the right group size as that is all my magazine will hold. I don't know why.

I then went directly to the 200 yards plates and missed 12 times at a 12"W X 18"H plate. I may revisit that later after seeing what 100 yards looks like.
I don't think the mount came loose at all.
I shot around 34 rounds total.
Man my shoulder hurts.

Must have been shooting off a bench. :D Your 81 shoots better than mine for sure. What load are you using?

Thanks for sharing your range report.

Yes, off a bench, but next time I will be using a Lead Sled.

All the bullets were Speer 170s.
All primers were WLRs.
Some had 31.5 gns. of 3031, the GRUMPA cases had 31.8 gns.
COAL of 2.53.
Mixed cases, but some (18 of them) were new made by GRUMPA that I bought over a year ago. None of his cases had backed out primers so I must be resizing too much. Now I know how much to resize and where to set the shoulder. I had a couple that needed a bump to close the bolt. I must have been very close to the perfect reload for this gun. Whether the the bullet was close or the shoulder, I do not know.

Very good. The holes seemed a trifle large for a .30.

I have sometimes considered a mount like this but I've been leery of putting so much weight on those two screws.

Well, someone had to be the crash test dummy. "Fred" suggested I bed it with epoxy, which I did.
Time will tell.
I'll take it out in a few weeks and put a bunch more through it and see how it goes. (Need lead sled, says my shoulder)

"Fred" made it so the posts that are the threaded holes actually go up into the mount. It was an excellent job and the curve he put on the bottom of that mount was a perfect fit to the barrel jacket. The pressure isn't on the actual screws, but the posts themselves, if that makes sense. The rear sight didn't come with the rifle.

For a range gun shooting cartridges of moderate performance in an 9lb rifle I think those 2 screws will do alright. I probably wouldn't trust them for a rugged high dollar hunt without extensive testing to ensure they're up to the task.

I'm confident the screws themselves will hold up, but the narrow spacing might not do it any favors. It'd be interesting to settle on an accurate load, zero the rifle and bump one end of the scope with a towel-wrapped lump of wood from the side, and see just how sensitive to rough handling it is. Side-loading the ocular or the objective will torque the assembly the most. If it holds zero, then you'd have greater confidence about it surviving in the wild.

I have not shot it since. I am tooling up for .308 at the moment.
New Bar MK3 DBM.
Jimii was good this year so Santa was better.

As soon as it warms up a little I will take it out again. I bought a Lead Sled.

A great and wonderful butt pad to lessen recoil without using a 'lead sled' are 'Limb Saver' brand slip on pads. They are a quality item, around $30 on the average, but really tame recoil to the shoulder. Great product without having to 'violate' the stock with a screw-on pad. Great for off-hand shooting either target or hunting. I use them on both of my 300 Savage 81's.

NEVER !!!! Use a lead sled on any rig like this. You'll either wreck the stock or the scope will come off.
I can't believe a 32 rem in a 9 lb rifle kicks enuf to use a sled.
Get a slip on pad and let it recoil.
I have a sled for my 20 lb 338 RUM 1000 yard bench gun with a lam stock and brake. That's a whole different world
