Anyone been able to do a 7-30 Waters Rimless conversion on a Model 8 or 81? I would think 120 grain bullet at 2500 fps out of a Autoloader would be a fine goal.

Well, guess that could be done but have to wonder why would you unless just for the novelty. If the idea is to push 30cal bullets faster out of a Model 8 seems there is a much easier way to do it than converting an existing rifle. I`ve loaded spire point bullets for a Savage 340 bolt action and a Savage 99 in 30-30 for years. The 30 Remington is basically the same case capacity as the 30-30 Win so don`t see why it would n`t work. A 130 spire point can be loaded pretty fast depending on choice of powder. The last bunch I loaded was with Hornady #3020 bullets and their Leverevolution powder. These Chronographed out of the 99 Savage carbine (20 inch barrel) 2350/2400fps. I don`t have the data in front of me but recall that the powder charge was not max nor compressed. When I get to the bench next time I`ll load some 30 Remington with same data and see how they do out of my 8`s.

Thank you. That's very interesting information. The think I worry about a little with the Model 8 and 81 ( it being a recoil operated gun) is the pressure.

This may be of help, the 7x30W could be reamed in a 30R barrel lined to 7mm, the 30R is slightly smaller per SAAMI.
