7.62x39......Part Deux, w/pics of my "new" .35 Remington

Hi All,

So I have literally just purchased this Model 8 in .35 Remington in the last half an hour from Gunbroker and plan on using it as my rechambering project into 7.62x39....having said that I've a question or ten for the members:

Firstly, I'd like to know what the group thinks of the rifle from an apperance standpoint, and what value they would assess it?

Secondly, can anyone elaborate on the rear sight?

Thirdly, where might I find a crescent buttstock for either the precursor Remington Autoloading Rifle or a Model 8 (no 81 please) to replace the one on there with that godawful rubber butt pad?

Fourthly, now that I've an appropriate .35 as opposed to .30 or .32 (and aside from the new barrel that's needed) what other parts do I need to purchase for this to come to fruition?

I'm sure I've left something I need to ask out of this conversation so if anyone notices a glaring hole please advise!

Thanks,
Katelynne

Congrats on your new-to-you Model 8. :D

Rifle looks in good condition. Wood has been sanded but it's tastefully refinished. A replacement buttplate can be found but you may need to watch and wait on sites like ebay and gunbroker. The receiver mounted sight appears to be a Williams. The rear sight on the barrel jacket was removed and the screws replaced. To make that look really nice source a vintage " rear sight blank" to cover.

Thank you .....quite happy I found one in .35 calibre, and with sling swivels already installed. The rear peep sight will be coming off and the traditional sight back on the barrel as I'm going for an "Victorian/Edwardian" look if you will while hopefully bringing the cartridge it fires into the modern age. The best of Old & New......Nostalgia & Affordability!

As for the buttplate are you thinking, once one is found of course, that it will be as simple as taking the rubber buttpad off and putting the other on.....or is that a much too simple equation, lol!?

Copy that.....once it gets in I'll be able to get a better look at it. And found out from the seller just a bit ago it was made in 1909. Will go perfectly with my FN M1900 in .32 ACP and my FN M1903 in 9mm Browning Long!🙂

Congrats :!:
That's a very clean rifle for the vintage. Got one of the SLRs a year or two older that has little finish left, a good shooter though. My son was impressed at the range.

I'm having about as much luck finding a Model 8 buttstock as I would finding hens teeth.....sooooo, will a round knob stock from an early Auto-5 work on this rifle or only on the FN 1900 version?
And thanks, Phyrbird!🙂

I believe that the round knob will not work on your rifle. The round knob requires a curved tang and your rifle has a straight tang.

Try :

http://gungrip.com/remington-model-8-buttplate.aspx

https://vintagegungrips.com/shop/reming ... 16-x-1-12/

Bear in mind; these are curved, most are oversize to be sanded to fit the stock.
Seldom do you find the metal ones with the toe that has a screw vertical.

I think that stock has definitely been cut and cut at an angle also. Your best bet for a stock is probably here:
