picked up a remington model 12a today having no luck in dating it serial number is 403xxx no letters on left of barrel. nothing on receiver saying model 12a. but it does say 12a it on the barrel.

Produced from 1909 to 1936 with a run of 800,000 . Your 400,000 serial # puts it for fair guestamating at the halfway point of production. Mid 20`s perhaps. Maybe someone has more precise info.
