Great 8 Countdown & * Giveaway!
Posted: Thu Jul 14, 2016 8:10 pm
Hey Guys,
The Great Event is just two weeks away! I have been working very hard to get the site ready for some challenging shooting. The range is set up for targets ranging from 25 yards to 300 yards. A walk-up steel target arrangement ranging from 25 to 50 yards or longer if you are so inclined for longer shots. There is an animal target area without yard ages marked so we will see who can guess the yard ages and hit the animal targets. No range finders allowed and I will be the only one that knows the yardage. Animal targets include wild boar, coyote, whitetail deer, antelope, elk and black bear. There will be several stationary splatter targets. I just finished installing an inclined 80' "zip-line" for a moving target with various distances. I am prepared for both rifle and pistol shooting.
There will be a clay thrower for anyone wanting to shoot sporting clays. Clays will be available at my cost.
I will be taking several model 8 & 81 rifles to the farm both days. Among the rifles that will be available will be:
2 carbines in 30 & 35,
1 300 Savage with scope and Kreiger conversion,
1 35 model 8 with scope,
2 VerSchneider Conversions in model 8 & 81 .35,
1 FN with Monte Carlo stock,
3 Police Models with the POE 15-shot extended mags; 1 model 8 .35 and 2 model 81's 1 .30 and 1 .35,
1 FSMR model 8 .25,
In addition to the above, I will have several handguns available for the guys to shoot. These include:
Revolvers in .22, 44 Rem Mag,
Automatics in S&W's 22' 9mm, 40, 45, and Colt 1911
S&W 223 with slide stock,
Several shotguns,
High powered rifles in various calipers if anyone wants to punish themselves. I have ammunition that can be purchased for these rifles.
The itenerary for the event is not cast in stone and is meant to facilitate time at the farm for shooting both days. The following is what I have in mind.
Thursday will be set up day. Some have indicated they were available to help so if you are going to help, let me know and I will get you directions earlier.
Friday will be the first day of the event. If you get in before noon, meet at my residence for some coffee and donuts and chit-chat about the rifles. We will head to the farm at 12:30 and will start shooting at 1:00 pm. Shooting will stop at 4:00 and we will head back to town to relax and do some more talking and sharing of our "stuff". We will have dinner sometime between 6-6:30. The evening is yours to enjoy wit the guys.
Saturday is the main day for the event. Those that staying Thursday evening can join us for breakfast at 8:00am at the Spring Garden Resturant. They have an excellent breakfast menu with a good selection and very reasonable prices. After breakfast we will meet back at my house to look at rifles and chew the fat.
We will head to the farm at 12:30 to prepare for the shooting that will start at 1:00 pm. We will shoot until 4:00 and then head to town for cocktails and other refreshing beverages. Joe and I will start preparations for the evening meal at my home. We will plan on eating between 6-6:30. After dinner we plan on sitting around and look at what the guys have brought for others to see.
All I need to know at this point who else will be joining us for the weekend. I have commitments from Sarge756, Phyirbird, 81police, jim008, Mike and a maybe from S and S Huntclub. I have some local friends who may be joining us also. If there is anything that needs to be added, please contact me. I look forward to seeing and meeting all that are coming to OUR event.
Kindest Regards,
