Sir, John Henwood's book is pretty much the bible/only definitive work, about the Model 8/81 remingtons. I've owned my book for a long time(15 or more years). I look at it when ever I need an answer to a question that has me stumped. However, since becoming a member of this forum, I'll admit that I don't consult it as much as I used to. There are so many knowledgeable members here.Always willing to help a fellow m-8/81 enthusiast.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

I just finished it a week ago.
There was a lot that I just didn't know.
A very interesting read.

Funny how big of a collector he is/was but he doesn't recommend shooting them.
That is just crazy talk.

Henwood passed away a few years ago.

Sorry to hear that John Henwood has passed on. I've got all three editions of his Remington 8&81 book, also his books about the Winchester self loaders and the S&W military and police revolver. John was a member of the Cast bullet Association like I am and he advertised his books in the CBA newsletter. Had some interesting letters from him over the years.

Just picked up the 1st edition yesterday!

I bought the 2nd Ed from Mr. Henwood's personal collection in the early 2000's. When I called him all he had was 2 copies, as it was printed in 1995. The one he sent me is one he sent to the NRA Library for review. They returned it to him, stamped on the edges and several pages "NRA Internal Reference Library". He was almost apologetic for it being marked. Heck, I was thrilled to get it!

I got the 3rd Ed the year it came out. A beautiful book! Thanks to those who put it out and contributed!

I just picked up the 1st Ed on Facebook of all places. A page called "Old Guns." I figured it was a duplicate of the 2nd Ed I already had, but wanted to snag it. I didn't realize it was a 1st until I got it. I honestly didn't think the fella sent it, because the envelope was too small for the 2nd Ed. I had to go get mine out to confirm before I realized what I had.

35Rem, A little bit of trivia about the 2nd edition stamped by the NRA. In a letter I got from John dated March 4, 1999 he mentioned the NRA returning the 1st and 2nd edition he had sent for review. Direct quote from the letter. "Had quite a row with the NRA. They took the review copies on the first two books, then did not review them! Added the books to their library, though! Took a forceful exchange of letters to convince them that keeping review copies without reviewing them constitutes theft. Eventually they returned the books." Possibly somewhere there is a 1st edition with the NRA stamping on it.

I bought the first edition many moons ago. Apparently, the first edition was produced in very limited quantities. My copy is an autographed copy, signed by John Henwood. On the inside first page, it reads as follows:
176 of 500
TO SAMUEL S. ROSS, JR., A
FELLOW REMINGTON
ENTHUSIAST.
Then, The signature of John Henwood

Any idea who Samuel S. Ross is? Any relation to Dianna Ross? I can just hear her singing... "I Love my Remington Model 8 . . . " See attached picture.

Enjoy Life, Bob @ S and S HUNTCLUB

Thank you Norm. He did say they returned it. I'm sure he shared the rest with me at the time, but I don't recall.

My first edition is also marked XXX of 500 and signed as above. I'll snap a pic of it and the NRA Library markings later.
