New 81..

Hey All..

Just inherited a nice Model 81 Woodmaster. Had never seen or heard of one so jumped right on some research that quickly led me here.

Really nice quality of wood and machining and the heavy duty feel of rifle really make it stand out from the rest of the collection. From what I can tell (no expert!) it's in good shape and most wear is where one would expect..plus a few assorted small scratches possibly from improper storage.

Would love any feedback on whether its missing a sight in the rear? There is a empty screw/sight hole and in other photos I have seen a sight right at the same spot.

Thanks much!

AS

Terran, congrats on your new rifle. The gun looks like it has not had a lot of use :D . The hole in the back of the receiver is for an optional tang sight so your rifle is complete except you need to find a replacement screw to fill the hole.

I am having some made for resale but am not sure when I will have them. I will let the board know when some are available.

Hello Terran1, You have received a very nice model 81. I would hold on to it ... Congratulations!

You can purchase the reproduction/new rear tang sight filler screws at the following site and they are very inexpensive.

http://www.aperturesnmore.com/

You can get them on ebay as well, for around $9.00 shipped to your door. Just type in Remington 81 in the search area and scroll down through the items, you'll find them there for sale.

Congrats again on a very cool looking Remington Model 81 !

Enjoy Life, Bob @ S and S HUNTCLUB
