Just picked up a Remington made Browning A-5, in 16 gauge, with a Weaver choke system. It also includes 5 weaver chokes. A little finish flaking on the heel of the butt stock, but that I can fix. The guy has owned it for the past forty years. Can't wait!!!!

In an era before the bigger is better movement, the 16 (or Sweet 16 as the Brownings were known) was considered the perfect self-defense and hunting gun. In Iowa. most kids would start with either a 16 or a 20 (my personal favorite) for their utility gun, given to them in their mid-teen, backing up the 22s that were the usual Christmas present of a 9 year old.

From the engraving pattern on receiver, the matted top of receiver and rounded ejection port at rear this gun appears to be the Remington made A5 of WWII years, serial number should begin with A, these in 12 ga began with B and 20 ga with C, some had round knob pistol grip and some flat. Fine A5s, excellent field and range guns, congratulations, nice specimen, one could build extensive collection with variations of American Brownings.
