Yoke serialization

Post by uhjohnson »

I have two model 8's without a serialized yoke. Did the yoke( i have also heard it called the barrel jacket/shroud head) have the guns serial number stamped at the bottom during the manufacture or was it stamped during a repair. Or is it possible a serialized yoke was replaced during a repair with a nonserialized yoke

Hi uhjohnson, older Model 8's had them hand stamped on the bottom of the jacket head across from the serial number on the bottom of the receiver. Later production guns usually had them under the forearm, hand stamped on the side of the jacket head...most often a partial serial number too. I've seen a handful w/out serial numbers on the jacket head.
