Were ANY 81C's chambered in .300 savage before they changed to 81B?

I thought that maybe if the .300 savage came out in 1940 and they changed the 81C's to 81B's in 1940 there might have been a few .300 savage built in the 81C.

I've never seen one.

81-C's are pretty rare. I don't recall the calibers but I've only seen 3 or 4 ever.

So the 81C is rare period, and the 81B is fairly rare. Thanks

Have you pulled the forearm to see if it is stamped to indicate "C" or 3.

Not yet jack, I'm suppose to go look at it this weekend. I Was just wondering about a 81C in .300. My guess is when I go look at it, it will be a 81 with the checkering added. But who knows, I may get lucky and it will be marked with a "C" or a "B".

If it is a B, you will find the "-B" on the receiver next to the 81. It will look like an addition and not part of the initial stamping.

Did a quick check of the B's and C's I've kept on file. Couldn't find a "C" in 300Sav. Did find a "B" grade #10XXX, mfg November, 1940 chambered in 300Sav. This "B" grade is transitional as it has a buttstock with cheeks like the 81C's, but is clearly marked 81-B.

Well it was not a C or B. It just a really nice 1946-47 81 in .300sav with nicely done checkering. I'll try to post some pictures today or tomorrow. I saw a Remington auto loading rifle in .25rem that dated to around 1908 in well used condition with the flip up peep sight. It didn't have the crescent butt stock and it had a piece of felt for a butt plate. asking price was 600.
