Hey waruaki1,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting the picture. The RP you refer to is on the right side of the barrel and is in a circle and it is a proof mark. Has nothing to do with barrel codes which indicate month and year of manufacture. The serial number, 34944 was issued in 1914 as you indicated. Ther were 2146 rifles issued in 1914 and it is not a rare rifle. You never mentioned the caliber of the rifle which can also affect the price. Remember the 35 is the only cartridge that is still being manufactured. The 25, 30 and 32 are obsolete calibers and while you might locate some, you will pay a pretty price to get them.

The price you suggest is about right and as you mention, condition can certainly increase value. There is no set range on these rifles and given some of the outrageous prices some have been giving to get a rifle, you can only guess what your rifle could be worth. More pictures of the wood and metal would help determine a more accurate value.

Hey Brett,

It appears to me the rifle has been re-blued. The luster is not consistent with the slow rust blue that Remington used on their rifles.

I agree with previous statements, the rifle has certainly been reblued.

It has been pointed out correctly that your rifle was reblued using modern hot dip process rather than period correct rust blue. The bright shiny blue is a detractor rather than a plus. Notice that you have listed it "for sale" on another post and I won`t comment on it there. The 'shooter grade' you referred to above fetching X amount of dollars is the category you might consider. To leave you with a positive, whoever buffed the metal prior to the reblue did a pretty good job and of the stampings shown didn`t obliterate them. If a sale is what you are looking for hope it is to someone that will appreciate it.Most of us here would feel honored to have been left a rifle that we knew the history of
