Hi:
Recently acquired 1910 model 8 and stripped down for cleaning. All is very nice shape but when I removed trigger group I found this small round pin just lying on side of receiver next to safety mech., not attached to anything. I have reviewed all parts list/diagrams and videos and at a complete loss as to what it is, where it goes etc. Attached pix show it is shiny on one round size and darker on the grooved edge side which i thought might have come from bolt area but everything looks as it should and no broken parts. Can anyone be of any help identifying this and function and where it goes?

I believe it to be a part of the safety lever that has been broken off of the pin that goes in the right side of the receiver and becomes flush with the left side of the receiver. It appears to have a slight taper on one end which is consistent with the pin.

Hi:
Thanks for the input. That's what I thought at first, but safety lines-up nicely and functions correctly/flush with receiver. Here is attached pix of safety; maybe I'm missing something but looks ok to me. I'm almost beginning to think this is a phantom part somehow. What do you think?
Regards,

It appears to be the hammer end of the firing pin to me. The groove to the left in the picture, appears to be the groove/slot for the firing pin retaining pin, that holds the firing pin in place in the bolt carrier. Your rifle may have had the firing replaced at some point in time and this portion of the broken firing pin was never removed from the inside of the receiver. I'd say if the safety lever is intact as Jack1653 suggest and the firing pin is in fine shape, then discard the piece you found, put it back together and enjoy the rifle!

Hi:
Thanks for the input and I think you might be right; it is about the same diameter as the firing pin retainer already in place but of course I couldn't see the slot on the other side of the retainer inside the bolt carrier to confirm. Here is another pix of the part, which now does appear to be a phantom part as it were. I would have attached addtl pix but it seems the forum greatly limits pix attachment pixel size; here is addtl viewpoint, so does that help in 100% identifying this part without taking apart. I have never seen this part listed separately on a diagram or parts list for the model 8
Regards,
Richard

The safety looks good to me. I agree with Bob's comments. Shoot the sucker and enjoy it.

Thank you Jack and Bob for your timely and knowledgeable help! Everything else looks right so hopefully I don't experience any "slam-fires" with this 1910 model as I understand the earlier ones can do that. The bolt/pin looks to work correctly without any hang-ups and after a good cleaning and put back together in the next day or so, I hope to go out and test-fire.
Thanks again!
