Wood Repair

Post by HappyMax »

A few years ago I picked up a model 8 ser#23666 "F" from a local gun-shop here in Idaho. It belonged to some old boy who spent a year or 2 in the saddle, there's no bluing left, the butt plate is broken and worn shiny now, the stock is hammered from being kicked around and the fore-arm has a pretty big crack in it. In it's present condition it isn't worth much so I was thinking about restoring it and keeping it, it's a blast to shoot and still pretty accurate. The wood is very dry and hard now and I can't get the crack to close up by applying pressure to it. I was thinking about soaking it in water or steaming it to see if it will close up, any ideas? I'd like to stay away from wood filler if I can. Where the crack is located I don't have the room to sink a repair pin either.

An "F" did you say? Are there pictures?
