Post by panzerman »

I just got an Model 81 and the serial number is 65054...how is that if the serial numbers ended with 55XXX?

That's a really good question that i may not have an answer for. But my first question would be, does your rifles receiver have a model81 rollstamping on the left side? Does your rifle have an early style semi-beavertail forend?
With answers to those questions we may get a theory or two. Does anyone else have any thoughts here? I have an idea but it may just be a theory on this rifles age. Thanks for your time,
Roger

I'm going to guess the rifle is actually a model 8 rather than an 81. Probably worth a closer look to varify.

It sounds like in the other posting that you verified it is a much earlier number. They can get tougher to read as the eyes start to go. Ejoy your rifle!
