Original Boxes

Post by DWalt »

Has anyone seen, or have pictures of, original shipping boxes and labels for an 8 or 81? I would like to see one. I would imagine they are very rare.

There is a picture of a new in the box m-81 in Henwoods book. Its from bob creamer's collection. But I don't remember how much oof the box is seen. I can't remember what page it's on either, but that's all I know. Sorry, probably not much help.
Thanks,roger

Here's a Model 8 box that was auctioned a while back, you really don't see these often. Roger's right about Henwood's book, there's a NIB 81 photographed as well as a new-in-crate Model 8 in .25Rem from 1911.

DWalt, The Great Remington 8 book shows pictures of Bob Creamer's crated model 8 and accoutrements on pages 19, 20 & 21. To our knowledge, it is the only know original model 8 factory shipping crate in existence. There is also a photo of a model 81 shipping label from 1945 on page 44 of the book which belonged to Ed Furler. You are correct that these boxes are pretty rare. In 30 years of looking, I’ve only owned, seen or heard of about ten 81 boxes. There is probably many more, but not the dozens and dozens of boxed guns like you see with other models which had productions in the hundreds of thousands. That’s just my opinion.

At the June Louisville show last year a 90 % boxed 81 sold for $900.00. I thought the price was reasonable.

Thanks so much to you both for posting these pics. It's great to have them for reference work. I have personally never seen an 8 or 81 box in person. Corey was definitely right about the other companies boxes though. As a Browning A-5 @ Winch. Lever collector too, I have seen many. Browning@Winchester boxes. Many, in 30 yrs. Of collecting. Rem8@81 boxes @ boxed guns are really rare. Thanks again
