How many rounds should I be able to load into my M81 300 Savage? I cant get any more than four in mine.

5 in the mag I believe is correct in all caliber's.

WG, I did an edit to the above post of mine.

I can get only 4 in the magazine of my latest M81 in .300 Savage, plus one in the chamber.

Interesting, I have the same condition that DWalt has. The fifth round will not quite go in so I have have just settled for four. I have also had trouble from time to time with jams. Not a lot but enough to make me wonder if he and I have some kind of issue related to not being able to load five rounds. I hope some of the other M81 Savage owners can let us know how it is with their guns.

For calibers 35Rem & 300Sav magazine capacity is - 4 rounds. (although a factory stripper clip will hold 5 rounds you only load 4).

All other calibers hold 5 rounds in the magazine.

Weird, I tried to answer that question earlier with 4 plus 1 in chamber. I grabed a 81 Kreiger conversion 300 and could only load 4. I grabed a standard A grade 81 in 300 Sav and was able to get 5 in the clip hand fed ??

Yeah it's peculiar, I was looking through some period advertisement and many of them say "magazine capacity is 5 rounds" but they do not refer to a specific caliber.

Remington's Model 8 instruction booklet (and the 1912 Motion Picture Booklet) show a capacity of 4 rounds in the magazine for the 35Rem.
