Forearm Take Down Screw
Forearm Take Down Screw
Thte forearm take down screw on the model 8 has what appears to be a 3/4 inch "swivel" that could potentially be used for a "narrow" sling. Is this what this "swivel" was intended for and if so - how was the sling supposed to be connected to the buttstock as there is no "swivel" or allowance for a swivel on the buttstock? If the use of a sling was comtemplated for the model 8 - what did the intended sling look like, is it still possible to aquire one, and where would someone look if they wanted to aquire one. Thanks in advance for the information.

Quote Mr. Henwood, pg 52 : "The most common type (of M8 forearm screw) is blued, and has a small wire swiveling loop, flattened and looking much like a tiny sling swivel, to be used as a handle to remove the screw during disassembly."
Your question is common and a good one that we all have wondered about when we first started with these rifles. As you observed, it would be difficult to use them as a sling swivel, and indeed they were not intended to be used as such plus they are often found damaged or missing due to such use.
