no serial #on 81

Hey
I have an 81 in 30 rem that has no serial # on it. Has not been filed off or anything. Has 81 Woodsmaster on it like it is supposed to, just no serial under it. Has anyone seen this before?

Never heard of that shoez. All standard 81's had the serial number placed directly below the "Remington" marking not "the Woodsmaster". Have you removed the forearm? Many times you will find the serial number stamped on the barrel shroud as a second location. Do you have a scope mount or receiver sight on the rifle? Please post pictures if you get a chance as they'll reveal much more information. Welcome to the forums, glad you found it!

I checked under the forearm, and no markings at all. There isn't even a barrel date code on the barrel shroud on the LH side like there should be. And no, no scope mounts or aftermarket sights. (the only one of 3 that I owned that wasn't drilled up in a failed attempt to mount a scope) I don't have a digital camera at the moment, otherwise I would post pics. I broke it during the last deer hunt. Who knew that digital cameras didn't like to be dropped.
