Re: Anyone hunt deer with the .25 Remington?
As to wild boar, feral hogs, pigs or what-have-you, the .223 is just fine. I've managed to kill a couple of porkers DRT with that little round, so I say "pshaw". Any of the Remington stable of calibers in the 8/81 family ought to do just fine for pigs or deer, for that matter. For grizzly,...

Re: new reloading project
Given that that previous thread is 8 months old it seems things have changed somewhat. I have 100 .30 Rem cases in bound from Lohman's and they list both .30 and .32 in stock. $66 for the hundred. I'm glad I got the cases from GB, but I'm also glad to see another source which is, currently at least,...

Re: new reloading project
These folks have .30 and .32 brass in stock. Also, loaded ammo, but it's a little spendy.

Re: picked up a parts set
I don't *think* so. The case bodies are the same diameter and all the cartridges are the same length.
At least this is so for .25, .30, .32.

Re: picked up a parts set
As I understand it, the bolt heads on all the small caliber guns are the same, so you could just swap barrels.

Re: new reloading project
I only have a .32 Remington, and fortunately it came with 90 rounds of ammo, and 10 empties. 15% have been cracking though. .32 Remington ammo is getting absurd as well so I have decided Santa is getting me a lathe for Christmas to make my own brass from 30-30. Annealing is in my immediate future a...

Re: new reloading project
.30 is also getting harder to find so I think these cases are getting annealed about every other firing so maybe they'll last longer.

Gunbroker.
Total of 90 from two different sources. A little spendy, but, yanno, reloading.

new reloading project
Now that I have a stash of nifty .30 Remington En route, I begin yet another episode of reloading a weird or obsolete caliber. I make it a matter of policy to never take up more than one new caliber at a time. Thank heavens there aren't too many different ones for the Model 8. ;) Now, to find some d...

Re: Barrel jacket scope mount
I don't see why it wouldn't work. The pic showing the mount screwed into the sight base holes and then the inverted scope ring further forward would mount a long eye relief scope easily. Pistol scopes have to take abuse because they're designed to be mounted on things like .44 magnums that generate ...

I found a barrel tool!
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b178/bandersnatch45/IMG_20141118_160828.jpg Found on Ebay for 62.00. A trifle spendy, but I really wanted to get the barrel apart and check for rust. This is the 81 I found at the gun show and I had found some rust inside the receiver, so I was concerned for the in...

Howdy Do!
Just bought my first 81 recently and was looking to learn more about this fascinating rifle.
