Re: Model 8 Buttplate
I have a rifle with this buttplate, but it only has one of the 1" diameter holes drilled that is between the two screw holes. This is somewhat different from what is covered in Henwood's book saying the buttstock had been done for a different buttplate and the original screw holes had been plug...

Re: Extra hole drilled in the trigger guard
This issue has been discussed before and normally there is a wood screw in that hole. No knows why, because the tang screw is what holds the stock. I think this will only be found on rifles with semi-pistol grip stocks and the tang was longer maybe suggesting an additional anchor to the stock. I hav...

Try threading the screw in the receiver on the outside(right side of the receiver). This should alow you to clean out any bad threads on the inside of the receiver. If it won't go in from the outside, then the screw is the problem. Simply file off the first thread on the scew and all should be compa...

There are keys inside the receiver that are to keep the bolt in correct position when the rifle is assembled. My main point that I was trying to get across with S/N: 69551 was that the two serial numbers on the butt stock shows that Remington did use older parts to build rifles for the final run of model 8's.
