We really need to see some pictures to do a good job evaluating what you have. Is there any engraving on the metal? The sling rewinding into the stock sounds very French to me. I think that is a feature of French shotguns of the period.

Re: Anyone hunt deer with the .25 Remington?

My impression is that "back in the day" people were hunting game with calibers which we now would consider to be inadequate. Today, we expect to kill an animal with one shot, often from some kind of stand. The whole idea of the Model 8 was 4 or 5 fast shots. I have seen several references ...

I really like my .30 caliber Remington Model 8 and was disappointed when they stopped manufacture of .30 in (was it?) 1997. I like the .30 Rem "Accelerator" idea. My own "pet" would be a Remington Model 8 chambering the 6mm Niedner Rimless Magnum cartridge, which was .25 Rem neck...

Pointed bullets .25, .30 and .35 Remington

I was looking on the IAA website and their collection of catalogs. I discovered in the Remington 1911-12 catalog that Remington used to offer "pointed bullets" in their .25 Remington, .30 Remington and .35 Remington cartridges. I knew about the .25 Remington with the .101 grain pointed bul...

What kind of cartridge does your Model 8 shoot? You say a rounded cartridge .32? Do you happen to mean a .32 Remington cartridge? If you mean .32 Remington cartridge, then the cartridge companies haven't made .32 Remington since 1977. And while that cartridge is scarce now, you can sometimes find so...
