That twist in magazine tube was to offset cartridges so they did not line up with bullet point against primer of cartridge ahead, thus preventing an accidental discharge from a jaring or blow to the rifle. Have never seen this feature on any other tubular magazine rifle. Jerry

Wildgoose, There were folding leaf sights made by King and Lyman and others that were used in conjunction with tang sights because they could fold down flat when using tang sight, since your tang sight is missing this was likely the setup on your rifle, these older folding sights can be very pricey....

Might try your local shooting range for pickup brass, some shooters leave it lie. Some ranges let others pick it up, some salvage it and sell and have seen some just sweep it up and throw in trash. Jerry

Rock Island auction in May had 2 F Grade 8s, one sold for about $8600 the other About $9200 including buyers premium. Artistry and quality represented there, but not the scarcity. Would be nice to have both or even one. Jerry

My shotgun use started as a kid growing up on a farm during the 1930s and using my Fathers 12 ga Model 11 Remington, nicest shotgun in the valley and it helped put much meat on the table and elimate many predators.
