Re: Model 8 front sight
The origional was listed as 11/32 with factory rear sight. This is the total height from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the sight. The factory front sight is low. Brownells can furnish the correct sight.

Re: GunBroker Model 8
I just picked up the engraved model 8. Looks better then shown in photos. Has been restored. Excellent job in general. Not over polished and manufacture marks and engraving is still quite sharp. The recut checking which is very fine (24 lines per inch) is two foot checkering. From two feet it looks ...

Reloading for the model 8 and 81
I reload a lot of shells for the model 8 and 81. I load all the calibers. One thing I found out is you should use military grade primers. The 8 and 81 do not have a positive firing pin retractor. Some have firing pin springs but these can weaken. Military grade primers have a thicker cap and a light...

Thank you. You saved me a lot of work trying to fit this thing. With the new wood it works just fine with out it. This anti-rattle device requires a lot of additional inletting.

Re: Model 14 pump
I wish I knew how to post a picture. The bushing is 4 sheet metal rings connected to each other by tabs giving a spring like appearance. I have a 141 32 cal in the shop and it has this bushing also. It is not shown in any drawings or parts list. The bushing slides on the magazine tube inside the for...

Re: .250 Sav in a M 81?
Another problem would be to get the correct spring balance. Each caliber has its own springs. No replacement springs are being made. You would have to try different existing recoil springs and buffer springs. A almost impossible situation with the current supply.

Model 8 carbine
I see somebody shortened a model 8 into a carbine. I can not find who did that. I wish to have one made. Does anybody know the gunsmith who made the carbine out of a rifle? How can I contact him?

Re: Stock screw rusted in place
Get a very large screwdriver and grind the tip to fit. Get a friend and one apply down pressure while the oter turns the screwdriver. If you can get screwdriver with a collar for a wrench that will help turning. The wood is applying pressure to the screw. I have had them very tight.

Re: 81 Saturn Boone scope
I have had several of these. I have seen them mostly on Savage 99 but have seen them on Winchester 1894 and Model 70. They were a prism scope. Very crude windage and elevation adjustments. Moving one changed the other. You just about wore out a barrel trying to sight in. I repaired two by re gluing ...

Re: 81 Saturn Boone scope
This is a Boone scope. If you try to use one it will fall apart from recoil. The glue that holds it togeather has dried out allowing all the glass to fall out. These were made in 2.5 and 4 power. Needs a special mount for each model.

Re: Stock screw rusted in place
Which screw are you talking about. The one that goes in the bottom tang through the stock? If you have access to a large drill press you can lock the gun in so the screw head is under the chuck. Fit a correct screwdriver in the chuck and lower the chuck so the screwdriver goes into the screw head. L...

Re: Stock screw rusted in place
Apply a good penatrating oil and let soak in. Get a perfect fitting screw driver. With the screw driver in the screw slot hit the head of the screwdriver with a hammer at a rapid pace while turning the handle.

Re: Barrel for a Model 8
I found several people who will anneal on line. Look like 25-30 cents per case. Buy old brass at gun shows but do not fire untill annealed. Your chamber is fine, the brass is too old.

Re: Barrel for a Model 8
I just today fired 100 rounds of 32 Remington loaded in old cases that where just annealed. Not a single split case. I do not recommend you anneal yourself. Find somebody that has the machine. They usually charge about .15 cents per case. They must be clean and polished before the anneal process.

Re: Barrel for a Model 8
I think there is nothing wrong with your chamber. Old ammo should have the bullets pulled, de-primed and annealed to prevent neck splits. Your brass is too hard from age. Re Anneal you cases.

Caliber and barrel interchange
I just finished rebuilding 10 model 8's and 81's. You can interchange the barrels and actions in the 25-30-32 calibers. You can put any barrel assemblies on any action. There is no headspace on 8's or 81's as it can not be changed or adjusted. They are like many automatics the hespadspace is automat...

Stripper clips
SKS stripper clips work in model 8 in 25, 30 and 32 caliber. You get two 5 shot clips out of one full length SKS stripper clip. you need strong fingers to push down. Had to widen clip feed lips about .004 which takes about a minute with a dremel tool. Do not know what value these have. Easier and ju...
