Re: Can We Discuss Specific Handloads For Model 8/81s?

Sarge, My buddy uses a more temporary solution. He runs a loaded FTX cartridge into the seating die and lowers the plug until it just touches the rubber tip. Then he backs off the plug one turn, lowers the ram, unscrews the whole die, and squirts a generous dab of hot glue from his glue gun onto the...

Re: Can We Discuss Specific Handloads For Model 8/81s?

"Frequent use of BLC2 for numerous calibers is the product of having an ample supply of it on hand. I load 35 Rem with it and use 37.2 gr behind 200gr rn." Thanks Sarge, I've notated your favorite BL-C2 load in my Hornady#2 manual. Also sent an email to someone I know at Hornady in their ...

Re: Can We Discuss Specific Handloads For Model 8/81s?

"Surprise! Surprise ! The weight of the powder is 38.5 grs ." That's very interesting....because I just got through pulling the bullet and powder from a .35 Rem. Hornady Leverolution cartridge (lot #3150431) and the charge weighs only 36.5 gr. ! The gunpowder is the same granulation of th...

Can We Discuss Specific Handloads For Model 8/81s?

...or is that supposed to be handled via PM? I have a library full of .35 Remington loading data - but none of it specifically addresses Model-8 autoloaders and any special requirements...or their limitations. After spending some time on the search function here, I failed to come up with a thread co...

Re: Is 35 remington leverevolution safe to use in a model 81

Sir, Sarge is absolutely correct. We have discussed this subject here before. But to re do my response from earlier, I have used leverevolution ammo in all my 35 Rem. 8/81s. It has been accurate beyond any expectation and kills deer dead as a hammer. Unless your rifle is in questionable condition,(...

Re: Add Firing Pin Springs to 1911-vintage Model-8..?

Thanks.

Should I add the two springs (for later models) when I install the new firing pin? The rifle doesn't have any firing pin springs installed right now.

Very Informative Forum!

Thank you all for providing a 'site for shooters and collectors to self-educate themselves on the iconic Model-8. I had one in .32 Rem. >25 years ago but let it go when it became a PITA to find ammo or brass. I recently acquired a deluxe M-8 in .35 Rem. which has a trio of minor issues to deal with ...

Add Firing Pin Springs to 1911-vintage Model-8..?

I'm trying to get my recently-acquired Model-8 up and shooting. Everything seems to be in order - except the tip of the original firing pin has broken off. Both Numrich and Wisner's have Model-8 firing pins in stock...so I assume that they will work in my ~ 22,000 SN Model-8. Is there a another, bet...
