Re: Original "RedHead" Leather takedown case for 8 or 81
Looks to be in better shape than mine; & I do like the shoulder strap it eases the wear on the hand grip. You may want to rethink the price. I've seen them sell for a lot more.

Had some surgery
Ladies and Gents;
Had disc surgery a week ago, so I'll be a little less active for a while. Luckily it seems to be a great success. Just got 6 weeks of rehab.
Jack it may be fortuitous our postponing the event. I won't be allowed any recoil for a couple of months anyway....

Don't believe the 25-30-32R is the same as the 35R-300Sav. The barrel is larger at the threads. Think I got a spare, got something to trade?

Internals of 25Rem barrel
Finally managed to take the 25Rem barrel assy apart, the internals are dramatically different (and nasty :( ) than others I have seen. Karl,
Found a firing pin, older model, not for the return spring type. Send me a email:
carlsandage@yahoo.com
Got any trading material
Be sure to check your bolt carrier for mushrooming from the hammer in the F/p hole, it can cause the pin to hang. It would affect a replacement too.

I've only had problems with 2 springs: one magazine spring (early M8 riveted), and the one attached to the button that releases the bolt after loading. The mag spring had broke in the bend; and the mag indicator leaf gets loose in the slot then can ride on top of the rail under the bolt. The mag ind...

35Rem is right about the value, if not a little more. I think it's a very clean looking rifle for that age. And having a Remington Grade D repaired in 1950 with a "81" barrel sleeve I know the factory did that kind of work. Got the "81 Full Monte" cardboard box it was returned to...

My personal opinion would be to just plug the holes w/ plug screws. A reblue has more effect on condition for most of us than a set of scope holes. Just a thought, weld up & blueing will be almost as much as another rifle. After all she does want a sister to join her in the safe.

A good one, looks to be in better condition than most we find. I like the checkering especially.
The grip cap and line spacer is not typical but is very tastefully done. Many don't look even close to that good.

Your cleaning plan sounds pretty good, I would add some Browning gun oil wipe about every 6 mo, It helps fend off the dastardly rusties.

Larry,
I'm curious how well the Cutts helps. I've an old Lyman adjustable (with ports) choke I plan to put on an extra Savage 520 barrel after it's shortened to improve the swing. I think it would be very cool.
