Re: Peep sight screw

Thanks, the allen screw i found wasn`t quite the right size but fit and hand tightened fine.
I put a drop of blue lock tight on it also and i think it will work fine.
Been so dern broke lately or i would of ordered one from the same place i ordered the base screw from.
But it`s fun to make stuff too.

Lot of good reading there Sarge, thanks. I`m overall happy with the 220 Speer opinions and at this point will continue to use it. When i ordered bullets Graft was out of the 200 grain Speer bullets or i probably would of gone with that. But i`m having such good results with the 220 i can`t make any ...

Thanks, i book marked the site.
I`m trying to find one local so i can put the sight on today.
I have a gunsmith bud in town that has a screw set so he should have one if it`s a standard thread.

Peep sight screw

What size and thread type is the screw needed to mount a peep sight on a 81?
The hole on the back of the receiver for a factory peep, seems to be something unusual.

Re: Scabbard carry ??

Cool story and gun Roger 8-) My opinion is the Ranger most likely carried the rifle fully loaded. A cowboy that`s life isn`t in danger would probably carry four in the chamber empty chamber safety on to prevent the bolt from moving when putting it in the scabbard. Scabbard carry ??

You all have seen old pictures of Rangers on horse back carrying a 8 or 81 in a scabbard. Well known rule of the old west was to never carry a lever gun with one in the chamber . Wonder in what manner they carried a Rem 8-81, four in the mag with bolt closed on empty chamber. Or fully loaded safety ...

Re: 35 Rem range report

Good performance .35 Rem loads can be made using 28-31 grains of IMR 4198 with heavier bullets.
Thank you Sir, my load is 28 grains with the 220 JFN, use at ones own risk of coarse. :)
I`m switching over to 4198 in all my rifle calibers which are 45-70,4560,and 30-30 at the moment.

Sarge, not lead, 220 Speer JFN bullets. If the load i`m loading groups at 100 yards as good as it did at 50 why would i want to change anything? Couldn`t wait, stripped it down and bent the spring a little. The slide spring and tube are clean and oiled so don`t think that is a issue.
