Re: New Replacement Wood
I heard that Turnbull manufacturing (I think that's the name) can make a stock for anything. I know they make high end 1911's so I expect them to be very expensive. The Model 8 I just won on Gunbroker may need a new set of stocks due to a lot of sanding in the (far) past. I may spring for a nice woo...

I've seen youtube videos (I'll try to find it and link it) where 5 rounds were loaded into the magazine of what was detailed in the video as a .35 Remington Model 8.

Generally, it is not a good idea to reblue anything when it comes to resale.
That said, it's your weapon. If you wish to reblue it and keep it in the family, then by all means do so.
We ALWAYS want pictures.

I don't like govt with many powers at all. There is a list of weapons on the ATF's C&R list so age isn't really a factor, unless a weapon was made before 1898. *Sporterized is not C&R? It's a good thing I don't like sporterized weapons. Although barreled actions are OK on the C&R license...

Wow, this is a great thread!
She looks really good. I now have found a precedent for all those Model 8's I see missing the scope mount base.
I actually prefer the somewhat abused arms because when I bang them up hunting (and I will) I don't feel so bad.

Questions about a Model 8.
I came across one recently that has no markings on it's left side. Is that normal?
Also, the serial is in the 18,000 range. About what year would that be? Caliber was .25 Remington. I thought .25 caliber was discontinued very early, does all this add up?

There was something like 10 million rounds of Turkish 8mm imported into the US around the year 2000, all of it on stripper clips.
I'd suggest finding some of that and maybe getting an 8mm rifle as well.
