Re: New FN owner looking for information and advice

I think these are best left as is if they still function. The metal sounds to be in good condition and should no be "fixed" . Stocks could be recut if too far worn but again this is only my two cents -Canadian at that . Pictures, picture, and more pictures are essential for us fn and 8/81 nu...

I have the same sight on my 30 rem. also missing the aperture. The Williams Foolproof receiver aperture fits and is quite common. The fit is very good but Loctite 242 may be used to make sure it stays put.

The scope mount is certinally an issue but I think the rarity of the FN would override most of it. A competent smith could make a mating set of rings and you are back in business. The blue book value from 2014 suggest 1500 dollars at 60 %. I would think that would be close if there are no other issu...

Finally an 81

Got my first model 81 and it is 300 savage . It's in very good shape and came with a stith mount. Now I am looking for a classic 7/8 tube scope to top it with. Barrel code BSS dates to 1947. I should mention it kicks like a mule ! Now I understand all the old sissy pads. http://i1263.photobuck...

Re chambered 8

I came across a 25 rem that has been re chambered in 250 savage. Gun looks in very good condition but receiver has 4 holes in it for scope. I would think this is too much for these old guns. Anybody ever shoot one? Any feedback is appreciated .
