Those are some wonderful aftermarket modifications. I like the checkering, especially on the pistol grip and I've never seen one of these with a jeweled bolt. A recoil pad for. 300 Savage is a must.

Re: A day at the range
I agree that Locktite on the take down screw might make life difficult later on, but the elevation adjustment screw on the rear sight is another matter. I think a tiny drop of purple ought to do the trick and still leave it adjustable.

Re: A day at the range
This particular model 8, built in 1936, has been a real project in motion. I've had to deal with a floppy safety, a charging handle falling off, broken feed lip spring and a Redfield sight that wants to unscrew itself under fire. Get the safety flopping problem cured, got a couple of new feed lip sp...

The peep sight will Not interfere with the removal of the stock. On the tang behind the trigger guard you will see two screws: remove the rear most of them. Do Not remove the one closest to the trigger guard. That one holds in the trigger spring. The further screw (the tang screw) is fairly long and...

Re: What is your opinion on these .300 Savage rounds?
That Remington ammo is plenty good enough. I get consistent 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with my 81 using these boolits and they hit about as hard as .308 so you should be able to bring Bambi down with no problem.

Modifying the gun is going to affect value, but by how much is pretty subjective. These 8D's are rare enough that I have no idea how to price such a thing.

Well, I found the little dingus inside the magazine box and peened it as well as I could back into place on the end of the spring. Thirty-five rounds later and it's still there, I guess I fixed it. Howdy do, from Lower Alabama. :) These shootable pogo sticks are fairly rare here in the south, the Winchester 94 being the go to gun around here in the early 20th century. But, I got bit by the bug last year and have since acquired two! Mine are in .300 SAV and .30 Rem, but .32 Rem is eccentric eno...
