Re: your first model 8 (or 81)
In 1994 I had just paid off a debt and had a little extra cash. Went to the Canyon Reef Gunshow in Snyder Texas. A guy had 3 weird rifles on a table I had never seen before. Couldn't bring myself to part with any money that day, so my curiosity went unsated that day. I went home and started subscrib...

I think 6mm Remington is based on the old 7x57 cartridge case . 6mm Remington has no relation to Remington's .25, 30 or 32 Remington cartridges and can not be used to make them.

Withdrawn - off to auction...
Withdrawn and off to auction today 04/08/16...Remington Model 8. Made in 1910. Caliber .25 Remington. Not much finish left on the ole' girl, but she still shoots well. Grime and Tarnish on the receiver. The wood of the stock is nice. Rare "military" style butt plate that has corrosion and ...

Re: New FN owner looking for information and advice
Pictures please! Not going to be able to give you an opinion on worth without pictures. Even giving a value from pictures is dicey. What I have always heard is that if the gun is so worn and ugly and messed up that you can't really enjoy owning it, then you are justified in having the gun restored. ...

Probably not much more than if the gun had been refinished with regular blue or only had, say, 30% of it's original blue remaining. If you like it....it's a big plus. Sounds like a good shooter. Is the 35 engraved on the top of the receiver? What kind of safety lever?

I have heard that Realtors say that the 3 keys to a house's value is, "location..., location...., location. A corollary rule to that would be that a firearms value is, "condition..., condition..., condition". The only real exception that I know of to that is provenance to some notable...

Re: Model 81 question
In my humble opinion, yes, $650 for an legit 85% tapped post-WW2 .300 Savage rifle is too much. For that much money, I'm going to be wanting a pristine rifle - 95%+, with that beautiful pre-war bluing, and in some other caliber than .300 Savage. And I guarantee you $650 would be the top of my price ...

Re: Model 81 question
Generally, collectors prefer undrilled and untapped, firearms. So, generally speaking, yes, it does affect the value. That being said, I'd love to see a picture of the mounting of a Boone scope that is actually mounted to the rifle. Does this mounting have the peep sight attached by any chance? I've...

I'm an oddball, but I've always thought it would be interesting to chamber a Model 8 in one of the Niedner cartridges, either .22 Rimless Niedner Magnum or, my fav, 6mm Rimless Niedner Magnum. Both based on the .25 Remington case. A barrel would be the problem. https://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine...

That's an amazing find and purchase for your first Model 8. Be wary, it probably won't be your last one. Henwood says that standard stock was 13 3/4 inches but that deluxe grade rifles would be had with stocks made to measure.

Re: Anyone heard of a Model 8 in .308?
Way too many unanswered questions about this one. It's a Model 8. If they just re-chambered from .30 Remington to .308, did they do anything to the springs? How about the bolt face, .308 shouldn't work with the .30 Remington bolt face. The bolt might hold the cartridge correctly if it was originally...

I think its beautifully stocked with a weird amalgam of checkered forearm and uncheckered buttstock. Looks like higher grade wood with a cap on the pistol grip. Stock has a metal disc set in bottom of stock and "cheeks" and the bottom tang butt plate which make me think it's a factory butt...
