What a rare find that was! Surprised there wasn't any that knew before your friend. You gotta get out to the shows and keep your eyes open, rare parts and guns can pop up anywhere.

Bet that was interesting when you disassembled the shroud.
Pretty cool how the prior owner and or smith kept the firearm in action using the Winchester barrel. I wonder what reamer was used.

Yes, I see no issue as long as the rifle is in sound condition. Do your due diligence giving the rifle a thorough once over. Got to see the final bids on all before the premiums and added fee's.
I'm assuming the 25-35 stamped one was the cheapest of the bunch due to it not being factory original "wood, barrel?". I figure it came to no less than 1100 by the time new owner takes possession.

I just looked at a Williams Catalog from 1984 and it shows the FP-SSM and the 5D-SSM as sights that are to work on the 8's & 81"s, it didn't mention the FP-81. I'm not sure that helps much, you know it was before 1984 at least.

Hey Roger B.
The repair date code "OYY3" from my understanding would breakdown as such.
O- July
YY- 1952
3- repair
The stamp below the repair code "your production date code" KY would put it at May of 1930 your rifle was stamped.
