Re: New Member- New to me Model 8. Please tell me what I bought here

Congratulations on your first Model 8. You will need to be careful, or you will soon own several more. I am no expert, just a forum member, but I would say that your Model 8 is in above average condition, in fact very good condition for a Model 8 of it's age. It is in a very desirable chambering, as...

Re: New Member

I am using 3031 with excellent results and a 117 gr. round nose. I had some 117 gr. Barnes bullets laying around from a failed 250-3000 Savage experiment, and they also shot great. I would guess that it would be a good hunting load. Welcome to the forum. There is lots of good information and lots of...

Re: Everyone out to pasture?

I will have my 81 in hand for the Minnesota deer opener in a couple of weeks. I also hope to have a photo or story to share. Good luck to you, Bandersnatch.

I even had some splatter on my safety goggles. I am thankful that if I was dumb enough to get water in my lead, that I was at least smart enough to wear safety goggles. "A man's just got to know his limitations"-Dirty Harry in Magnum Force.

Re: Remington 8/81 'Cannibalizers' '!

Wow, that is great that you were able to get those parts. What a nice find. Hopefully you can keep your rifles going forever with those parts.

Would you happen to have a Model 8 forend screw that you could sell? I had one just shear off. The metal just wore out.

Re: Remington 8/81 'Cannibalizers' '!

On one hand, I see your point, that these old rifles are getting scarce, but then again, they are also getting old. Spare parts are needed to keep some going as functional rifles, and spare parts are needed for some to be lovingly restored. Unless new parts are being manufactured, (and with few exce...

Re: Everyone out to pasture?

I am using wheel weights. But I do not quench. I once got a visit from the "tinsel fairy" when some water touched the molten lead, so I don't have water around when I am casting anymore. Not to say that you should not quench your bullets, it's just that I am too clumsy to have molten lead ...

Re: Everyone out to pasture?

I use a Lee 180 RN bullet mold. Gas checked, the bullet comes in at 173 grs. Go figure. Over 27 gr. of 3031 in a 300 Savage case, it is accurate and reliably cycles the action of an 81. I have not had any problems with this load, so if you blow up your rifle, well, it is not my fault. This is not a m...

Re: newly mfg barrel nuts and washers

I would like the nut and washer as I believe that the 35 Rem barrel nut/washer is the same as on the 300 Savage. Someone, please let me know if that is incorrect. (Obviously I need nut/washer for a 300 Savage).Thanks.

Welcome. 30 Remington is a really nice chambering for your first Model 8. Emphasis on the "first", there will, in all likelihood, be more. Enjoy your fine rifle.

Re: The Model 81 in 25REM.

I don't know if anyone is still watching this thread, but I recently acquired an 81 in 25 Remington. It is very nice, only a small chip out of the pistol grip, other than that, a very solid rifle. It shoots great! I got a couple of boxes of ammo with it (Precision Cartridge). I have dies and plan to...

Have you looked at Gunbroker? There are always some for sale there. I have a Model 8 you might be interested in. It is chambered in 35 Remington. It is a nice one, wood and metal are very good. I had not thought about selling it. It would be in the $800 range I think.

Buffer spring 32/35/300

I think I need a buffer spring for a 32/35. My 32 is shooting fine, but the last little bit of the spring broke off. Is it O.K. to shoot it this way? Are these springs hard to find? What should I expect to pay for one?
