My first Model 81

Okay, I probably should have done this earlier. Was in a Kentucky Gunshow when my brother dragged me half way across the hall. He'd found a setup with lots of JMB Remingtons. This one was a beauty. In one of my favorite calibers 35 Remington. Nice wood, better than normal blueing. All I had was trad...

Re: Looking for a Police magazine?

Speaking of magazines, is there anyone with a scruffy, dimensionally correct POE magazine I could use for a pattern? Seems this group could use a source of quality supply of these for shooters. At 1K a pop that's a lot to be cycling and popping in and out of a action. We could try to work up somethi...

NaBaker, I've done some digging and checked velocities for standard 35 Rem cartridges. You should check out this site: http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp They list the following: 220 GR. SPR FN -- Hodgdon H4895 --33.0g .358dia -- 2.470"OAL 1848fps 29,000 CUP || 36.3g --2010fps 33,600 CU...

This is knarly, I suggest a pro gunsmith. You still have live rounds in the magazine, right? Use caution push/pulling on the bolt handle I've seen some that are broke in the groove in the bolt carrier. This is most likely from allowing the bolt to slam forward with the barrel removed. However it doe...

Very good to see an honest restoration, my complements. Side note: my research indicates the 25-35 Rem and the 30-30 Rem may have been Remington's attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the already known cartridges. My research says 25-35 Rem is 25 Rem; 30-30 Rem is 30 Rem. I have one of the rif...

OK, I've done some digging. The 35R bolt is about .005-.007 smaller than the 300Sav. Looking at the cases in the chambers with the rifle taken down they are very deep. That is the extractor is recessed in the "block". Yes, the extractor is very much the same. I'm amazed that the bolts clos...

Guys, I'm thinking  (Whoops) on a possible project. Got some fitting questions: How much "fitting" is involved to mate a bolt to a barrel? Aside from the concept of headspace. What are the case SAAMI dimensions for 32R, 30R, 25R? Source for gonogo headspace gages? Doesn't the 35Rem a...

Tip for those avid reloaders: Imperial Sizing die wax is great!! It prevents those nasty times the shellholder rips the rim off a case. Just a tiny amount on the fingers will lube several cases; the "wax" protects die internals from rust, a quick wipe with a rag removes it from sized cases...
