I think it depends on the abuse and miles put on the rifle. The barrel jacket is threaded into the head then secured w/ the pin. Forum member 2pversters has experience with rethreading and pinning these in his carbine work and the one I have from him is SECURE. If you happen to pick up John Henwood'...

Hit the Dallas Market Hall gun show this morning. There was only 1 Model 81 in the entire show, no Model 8's. It was in .300Sav with recoil pad, sling, Stith mount, and a Weaver scope. Average condition. Priced at $695.

t7013tjr, In all reality the liklihood is that the money you put into getting it refinished like you want will not add equal value to the rifle when done. You know though, it's your rifle if you want it refinished then do it, I'm sure it would look nice. Reblued guns aren't the ones bringing the hig...

yes, the current Weaver #7 (48407) requires the drilling and tapping of the receiver. 6 holes I believe.

very cool! All that is better than looking at a bunch of drilled receiver holes isn't it? Perfect scope choice too, that's a classic vintage setup.
You could always try and call Weaver, the model was a #4 and I think it also worked on the Krag rifle if I'm not mistaken.

Dwalt, Fine ammunition testing and fine post. It's interesting to see the 110gr. loads grouped the tightest. I would say by far the most common round of the 30Rem in it's day was the 170gr. soft point. In the mid 1920's Remington manufactured a 110fr. "mushroom" for the 30Rem. Good shootin...

Great observation. You are correct in that this rifle should have 4 screws in the left side of the receiver. john,
Sounds like your serial number is 23329. That would put your rifle's manufacture in 1911. The worn but present "cheeks" on your stock correspond with this. Nice looking old "springpole" you got there!
