Hmmm, my 1917 mod 8 has nice deep stamps and so does my 1926. The model 81's, made in 1948 and 1949 are not stamped so well.

The attachment of that rail is terribly interesting. What sort of optic might you place there? What I'm going to try first is the Aimpoint Micro H2. Simply because that's what I already use on other rifles for driven hunts. But even though it's a relatively small sight, it feels kinda clunky on a r...

I've never seen an 8 with a firing pin spring. There might have been some later ones, but I do have an 8 of the same year as your's and it has no spring and works just fine.

It looks like Mr. Waters was definitely onto something. A real, live 1 3/4" group. Who knew the wonderful old rifles could do such a thing? Waters opined that this made it a 200 yard rifle, which is well within most places I hunt.

Waters stated that the Remington literature of the day claimed that these rifles, in .30 cal., would group 3 inches at 100 yards with the standard round nose ammo. He was wondering if that couldn't be bettered. His load of ...

Let's not forget that this same gun system was loaded for .300 Savage, a Much more energetic cartridge. I've fired the Hornady 200 gr ammo in my 81 and it fed an cycled just fine and grouped well. I took two deer with this ammo this year with no hiccups from the gun. I imagine one could up the press...
