I think that's a great find! I think an FN 1900 in any shape is collectible. Perfect shooter canidate.

You could always use an original Browning A5 pressed horn buttplate to replace what's missing.

Thanks for the pics.

Probobably the reason that gun looks as good as it does is because it hasn't been shot much in 61+ years.

Me personally I wouldn't shoot, I'd rather pick up one of 56,000+ other Model 81's that don't look anything like that. What a find!

My grandfather's model 8 serial #22470 indicates that it was mfg. sometime in 1911. The receiver is stamped 25 REM and sometime in it's life it was changed to 30 REM. JimfromBend, I will concur with IMFUNCITY's post. The marking on the extractor has little to do with exact caliber designation. .300Sav and .35Rem used the same extractor which will be found either marked "35" or unmarked. This is common and correct per your rifle, it's nothing to be alarm...

Ahh the trouble with date codes and serial numbers. Your serial number would indicate the year your receiver was manufactured, the date code would indicate when your rifle was assembled and shipped.

Great responses Ken. jarrodeu, the thing I'd look out for is a drilled & tapped receiver, this is usually not desirable unless you require a scope. Purchasing a Model 8 or an 81 is just preference really. I personally like the grip angle of the Model 81 over the 8 (even the semi pistol grip 8). ...

the one I had, the rings hooked into place on the backside of the mount. They could be wiggled loose after you removed the 4 ring screws. Maybe that one is a little different I dont know.

I wouldn't imagine Remington rebluing parts not supposed to be blued, such as the operating handle, etc. I don't think there's a way to find out, I would suspect however that Remington's cost of refinishing a rifle would far, far exceed your local gunsmith of the day. Re: Model 8/81 Functioning

The proposed ballistics for the FBI 81 in .30Rem were to replicate the ballistics of the 351 Winchester round. And yes, after failed testing with a standard 81, Remington replaced the 30Rem recoil spring with a 25Rem recoil spring and the rifle functioned properly.
