The receiver may be right, but did anyone notice the Mod81 fore end & fore end screw that makes it not original?
Plus the 81 barrel parts were not available for repairs in 1932....

We're fine kinda in the eye of the twisters. However our neighbor down the road lost their home. Too many Christmas yard ornaments. Overload. Total loss.
Prayers for the targets of the storms & our neighbor.

Consider use of a 6pt 3/4" impact deepwell socket for stock. Might be less expensive for machining. I too would find this type of tool interesting. Especially if it could be attached to a ratchet wrench or impact tool. The T handle would be very easy for normal use, with the socket square a hi ...

Sarge,
The holes look like they are for the Williams 5D. If that helps.
My experience with TIG: it is possible, but impossible to preserve the blue. I'd add the receiver sight, it already there. Plus it would be less expensive I'd think.

Re: Bolt carrier binding when it travels back
LB, I think what chas is drawing attention to is that NO M8 -81 will look like that if the action is operated by hand. Manual pull the bolt, the barrel stays forward, does not follow the bolt. Is the barrel in the barrel assembly in your photo? I also note nothing is holding the bolt & barrel ba...

Bander, The problem is not the spring but momentum; ie Recoil. A 100-120g pill will just not generate the same momentum as a 150-180g 300 Sav will. M= fps x mass (120g). At normal pressures for the savage rounds it would mandate the different spring. Perhaps even a different mainspring. Trust me. I'...

Re: My first and I hope my last "Frankengun" (in 250 Savage)
Velly interesting :!: :!: Model 81s are chambered in 300 sav, the 308 version of the Savage cartridges. I personally have a hard time understanding why Remington did not chamber the 250-3000 it's sister. It is a better performing case. Of course being recoil operated the 250 MUST have differing spri...

Note the wrist sanded down below the tang. Forearm is not even a M81 let alone M8; ie we probably have a Franken. Due to the M81 screw in the forearm, hard to see, but there. Buffed out pit on the receiver left & on the serial # area could mean a reblue. Receiver is likely a SLR early rifle from...

CGU Is the mag ind spring riding on to of the bolt carrier rail, that's usually what causes weird stuff with the empty lock & cycling new rounds? It's supposed to be in the tiny slot just under the rail. The spring should be fairly straight when not in the action. Look to see if both tabs on the...

I'm not certain about the washers, not seen those B4. But the buffer & recoil springs are different on the 25Rem. Your buffer looks right. Some of our guys have found a wood buffer with 2 split washers on each end in a few rifles. Pretty sure they were not factory installed. Part numbers on the ...
