Wow, interesting! The pattern of checkering and the cheeks don't look consistent with Remington work. What kind of buttplate is that?

Pete Verschneider has a Trial's rifle. It is missing the extended forearm w/ barrel band but pictures of it can be found under the gallery section.

I doubt that's early 1920's video. To me those forearms looks like Model 81 but it's hard to tell. Also the angle of their grip is definitely not a straight grip Model 8, again it looks like Model 81. The uniform and cape across the back of their shoulders would that be reminiscent of the U.S. Navy?...

I traded that stripper clip to the author of that article in exchange for the translation of another, older article about the FN 1900 (the one with reference to Canadian FN marketing)...

The only standard grade Model 8 forearms I have seen marked are a few early rifles. Most of them are not marked, unless they are a high grade rifle where they will have the serial number and a letter denoting the grade. You cannot swap forearms on Model 8/81's (you can swap barrel assemblies however...

I believe they were just for cutting some weight. Model 81's did not have these two holes.

Hard to tell from the small picture but looks like a nice rifle. With the buttplate overhanging, and the stock altered I don't see how adding a recoil pad would deduct from the value.

According to the book, only 4 Model 81's were manufactured in 1943 and only 115 were manufactured in 1944 (wartime restrictions). If anyone could find a needle in a haystack it's Jack!

kinderio, Don't hold me to it, but the holes look similar to a Saturn Boone receiver mount. Go look in the Gallery page under "sights and scope mounts" and you'll find some pictures of this mount, it's scope, and it's hole spacing. Tbe holes in your receiver almost look too close together ...

According to Henwood's book, the steel clips were made during and after WWII. The brass clips were around since the beginning.

The notch in your forearm with the exposed serial number is a chip out of your forearm. Originally it would have been covered up and could have only been seen with the forearm removed. The serial number of the receiver and the barrel assembly should always match, that part is correct.

Yes, the trip lever (otherwise known as the magazine indicator assembly) when manually depressed will release the bolt/bolt carrier to its forward position. The bolt/bolt carrier should always lock back after the last round.

Good looking rifle. Even with the non original charging/operating handle and buttplate, it's still a rare bird, great addition to any M8/M81 collection. I believe only 4913 were manufactured and some were sold in Canada originally. Nice find!

What a great find! I'd have to agree with others, that rifle is a prime canidate for restoration. If you can't find the parts you're looking for email me, I've got some.

Well again Loren it just goes back to the condition of the rifle. I wouldn't give a set amount by saying Krieger's add $300 to the value, it just depends on the condition of the rifle. Most Krieger's i've seen go from anywhere between $700-1000. Just depends on a lot of things and must be taken case...
