Hunting in Texas with the Model 8

Deer hunting in North Central Texas this weekend with my 1912 vintage Model 8 in 30 Rem. So far the legal size bucks are hiding, but did manage to rip 6 shots at a running coyote. The coyote is alive and well, by the way! Ha! It was nice to get the 8 out into the field again. I just bought it this y...

Howdy, if you scored an 8 and 81 for an XDM, unless the rifles were in a pond for a few years, I'd say you scored quite well. Congrats!

Re: A Set of Remington Rifles

Thanks Jack, I sure will pass along when I find something interesting. I don't know why the early numbers intrigue me. Seems like in the gun world, early production examples exhibit better workmanship. It is interesting too see as the years go along how production changes due to cost cutting and eff...

Serial number 1of the FN, model 8 and 81. Now that would be a cool 3 gun set!

Late model 81 on GB

Just saw in GB an 81 in 300 savage that is serial number #60,693. According to the sites production numbers, the last one was 57,xxx. Is this possible?

Re: FN 1900 on Gun Broker

Jack, Thanks for the info. I'd say, in my amateur opinion, that this one is too much money for its issues and condition, and too rare to be a shooter. I don't mind wear and tear on a rifle if it's honest wear. Like my 1912 model 8, because I'm more of a shooter than a collector. However, I like them...

Hey Jack,

What issues are you referring too? I noticed the stock and where the receiver was drilled and tapped, I assume for some type of receiver sight. I always enjoy learning what to look for on these guns.

Howdy all, I been surfing Gun Broker again and saw Model 8 (pre 8, to be correct), sn 192 for sale.
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/589377410. I threw a bid at it, but I bet it goes for decent money.

Re: Two digit Model 81 on GB

And if you guys remember from the shoot in July, I brought and shot #22. I have not convinced the owner of it to sell to me. Yet. Since my only 81 is in the 53,000 sn range, number 46 would have been cool to own! I figure there was only 90 two digit guns made, so I want to own at least 80 of them be...

Two digit Model 81 on GB

Did anyone see the 81 Serial number 46 on Gun Broker? It was chambered in 35 and sold for $700 a couple hours ago. Only one bid, I was surprised not more bidders. It was in average condition, definitely not mint. Seems like it still went a little cheap.

Re: New 141 Gamemaster!

Pics of my new 1940 model 141 in 32 Remington. When I got it home, I completely disassembled it and got to cleaning who knows how many years of dirt, dust and dried oil. Absolutely perfect bore. I've got about 100 rounds through it already and it shoots good. I used IMR 3031, IMR 4064, and some 748,...

Re: newbie reloader with .32 bullet questions

I recently got a 141 pump in 32, and the Hornady 170 gr flat nose .321" bullet feeds perfectly through it, and quite accurate too. I am tempted to buy a box of Remington brand 32 Winchester Special ammo and pull the bullets and load them in the 32 Rem just to see how they do. Should be able to ...

Re: Model 81 and 30 Rem handloads

I'm new to using a chronograph, and I may not have it far enough away. I had it at ten feet from muzzle, but I've read that the chrony really should be 15' to 20' out to avoid false readings.

Model 81 and 30 Rem handloads

I was chronographing my handloads in 30 Rem today and was shocked to see a five shot average of 2,495 fps! It's 31 grains of IMR 3031 and a 150 gr. Sierra round nose. I've been using this load for years, never knowing it was a bit warm. I'm gonna double check to make sure my chrony wasn't somehow to...

I'm not sure the factory got into swapping caliber. I would guess someone, somewhere along the line swapped it to 300 savage. Hopefully the correct buffer springs were used.

Chronographing the Model 8

I got out the Chrony on Sunday and set out to check a bunch of loads in my Model 8 in 30 rem. I learned that what the fps are in one rifle is not necessarily the same as another. I have a handloads that I used 35.5 grains of 748 with a 150 grain Speer Hot Core round nose that registered 2215fps in m...

Very early 870 at Cabelas

I was at cabelas in Hazelwood, Mo. tonight and was looking in the used gun racks and found an older looking 870 12 ga., While looking it over I noticed it was a 4 digit sn and its barrel had the same sn. Looked at the date code, it was X UU. That's December 1949! Remington formally introduced the 87...

Howdy All,

Hi everbody, I'm located just on the Illinois side of St. Louis, Mo. As far as ammo goes, I'm pretty well stocked. Since I aquired my first 81 in 30 rem. over 14 years ago, I've latched onto whatever I could find. I was smart enough to buy 500 new cases back in 2002 (for $150!!) and I've also scroun...

Hello all! I just found this sight. I'm not new to the 8/81's, I bought my first 81 in 1998 and haven't been without one since. I've had 3 81's (300 savage,30, and 35) but only have the 30 currently. I just picked up my first 8 this weekend. It too is a .30. I'll try to post pics later. It's nice to...
