Awsome find! I hope you find a magazine soon. There has to be one out there somewhere. Took my Krieger out for a spin last week, she sure didn't disappoint. The more I shoot these old rifles, the more I respect I have for the old rifle craftsmen and what went into building them. Good shooting! Than...

Re: Model 8 Krieger Conversion Detachable Magazine
FWIW - same seller had this same mag listed on GunsAmerica auction site in January for a start price of $675. Now, that's great if such a mag can be verified as a Krieger conversion, but just by some careful inspection of this pre-1910 or so magazine you can see just how basic it is to mill the mag ...

Thanks for the heads-up Les - but that's for an early Model 8, I have a late 40's Model 81 to work with. Similar but different. And in reality, I now know that modifying an existing mag is likely the way I'll go at some point.Les Staley wrote:Adam, see Johnhalf's post above!

If it were my gun I'd take a stock mag and have it modified to Krieger specs. Re: Jack-Itis and my first Krieger!
Team GM8, How's about this wacky idea: in lieu of a Krieger magazine, I am pretty sure I could swap trigger guard/magazine with a "standard" 81 and put this rifle in action. From what I gather, I'm going to have to take a look at removing the magazine stop screw (Krieger's screw) as well a...

Carl, I do think I got a good deal - even without the magazine! It is a later Krieger, you can see it has that extra screw on the right side of the receiver (not talking about the pair of extra screws on the left s/n side) which serves as the safety over travel stop. I'm guessing there is a specific...

I'm running a JP silent capture spring, not anything smoother out there. I also run a JP low mass bolt carrier, that combination (along with a small frame Bennie Cooley brake) makes the gun "kick like a 223, but hit like a 243" http://www.midwayusa.com/product/316607/jp-enterprises-silent...

I don't know anything about Sabre Defense quality (I believe they're out of business now), but for the price it's hard to beat Alexander Arms uppers. For $735-792 you can get complete 6.5 uppers (16" or 18") which include a bolt carrier group and charging handle. http://www.shopalexandera...

Cam,
Any knowledge on the Sabre 6.5 Grendel upper? It's an M-4 profile with pinned flash hider, so it's a 14.5" bbl made legally into a 16" length.
Looking into my pre-built options to get my arf-15/Anderson going sooner rather than later....
thanks!

Rob,
My classroom kids (I teach 5th grade students) have been tracking the severe weather recently in class. Unfortunately, this is when we start getting the bad stuff and hopefully TX/OK/Ark/MO/KS will rise above.
And it's good to hear you're not in the submerged parts of Houston!

CK, You're right - this s/n is an early first year 81, 1936. Also, the lower of the two barrel jacket stamps is the original assembly date code of November, 1936 (RE) while the upper code is a factory return/repair code for November, 1939 (RH3). Neat stuff - from the slab-sided forearm, I assumed it...

What's the s/n range and barrel jacket date code, if I may ask? From the forearm style, it could have been anywhere from about 1940-1949.
