Re: dry firing a model 8

This was posted before, and I learned it here.
There is never a need to dry fire the Model 8/81.
Let the bolt go slowly forward, with your finger on the trigger.
The hammer will simply follow the bolt.

Re: Model 8 ,30-30

A fellow club member gave me some brass that he thought might be .30 Remington.
Some were marked 30 and were made by Remington. Turns out they are 30-40 Krag, formerly known as 30 US.

I grabbed one of those Ebay wrenches. It was perfect.
I didn't feel comfortable knowing mine, likely hadn't been opened in almost 80 years.
I was pleasantly surprised to find very clean internals and no rust. Plus it was fun!

I am about to buy a lathe to start making my own .32 brass.

I only have a .32 Remington, and fortunately it came with 90 rounds of ammo, and 10 empties. 15% have been cracking though. .32 Remington ammo is getting absurd as well so I have decided Santa is getting me a lathe for Christmas to make my own brass from 30-30. I am sure most of you anneal if you reload. I have been watching a lot of videos. Boy there are some resourceful people out there. I may go with the salt bath method. I just heard back from the maker that is out of business. He said the bullets I bought were tapered. That explains a lot. The package of ammo even warned some will crack and it is normal and not under any warranty.

The gun's bolt is stamped .32 Rem, so I think it is.
I don't think it would be that accurate in a larger barrel either.
The gun looks almost new.

If you get it to work properly, how light is that trigger pull?
If it was me I would dis-assemble. You will then in all likely-hood see what the issue is with the trigger assy. out.
Then decide if it needs a gunsmith or not.
